Franchise Media Training was founded by Pete Burdon who could see a major need for a business focusing specifically on protecting and growing the reputations of franchises.
Pete’s fascination from a young age in how what people say gets interpreted saw him complete Masters Degrees in Journalism and Communication Management from universities in Australia and New Zealand.
It was in his first role as a daily newspaper reporter that he could see so many good people suffer reputation damage by being quoted out of context when they spoke to reporters. They didn’t know how a media interview was like no other form of communication. Many still don’t.
When he became a government press secretary, he could see the media interview from the other side including the stress involved in speaking to journalists and how high the stakes could get if things went wrong.
That’s why he moved into media training. Not to help guilty people spin their way out of trouble, but to help good people get their points across to their audiences in a credible way, while also keeping in mind the needs of the media.
The roles of journalist and government press secretary also showed Pete the power of positive media coverage, particularly how many people it could reach and how it could grow reputations like nothing else. He saw so many business owners fail to recognise the many opportunities in front of them. Training business owners and communication staff how to attract this coverage became the second focus of Pete’s work.
It was soon after this that he saw the need for both of these services to be tailored specifically for the franchise sector. Franchisors and CEOs were getting into trouble with the media when bad news came their way, while few were taking advantage of the positive opportunities that were all around them. This led to the formation of Franchise Media Training.
After the publication of his first book, "Media Training for Modern Leaders," Pete added another primary service to the business. He could see the power of authorship in so many ways from growing reputations to the amazing reach and readership a book could get. This is why he started his series, "Top Franchise Leaders, Secrets Revealed," with each book being focused on a specific country. This allows selected Franchise leaders to co-author books with Pete, reap all the benefits including guaranteed bestseller status, without the time constraints involved with authoring their own book.
The first book published was "New Zealand's Top Franchise Leaders, Secrets Revealed," while the co-authorship selection process is underway for the next in the series, "Top US Franchise Leaders, Secrets Revealed." Details about that book can be found at this link.
